Student Executive

The Vice President of Communications and Awareness (VPCA) is a student executive role with managerial & operational responsibilities, contributing to organizational decision-making and overseeing NUSU’s communications and outreach. This includes managing media platforms such as the website, social media, and email, as well as planning campaigns, events, and fundraisers like Wellness Week, Academic Week, and cultural celebrations. The VPCA also sits on Academic Senate and helps oversee the NUSU Gallery.

 

This year, the focus is on improving transparency and accessibility in NUSU communications, enhancing the user experience across platforms, and expanding awareness initiatives. Additional goals include increasing collaboration across campus and creating more accessible opportunities for student involvement.

Student Representation

​

Serve as Chief Student Senator and represent NUSU as a voting member on Academic Senate and its committees;

Represent NUSU as an Official Observer on the Board of Governors and participate in relevant committees; and,

Advocate on behalf of students in institutional decision-making processes.

​

 

Website & Social Media

​

Oversee NUSU’s website and digital platforms, ensuring timely and effective communication with the student body;

Collaborate with the Communications Department to promote events, initiatives, and key information; and,

Research and recommend strategies to improve communication reach, accessibility, and engagement.

 

Awareness Campaigns & Programming

​

Lead the planning of major campaigns including Wellness Week, Academic Week, Shouting Through Silence, and Give Day;

Chair the Campaigns & Green Initiatives Committee and Fundraising Committee, and support Social Committee initiatives;

Develop and implement campaigns related to social issues, health and wellness, and sustainability;

Support national and provincial student initiatives through participation in relevant meetings when required; and,

Plan and execute term-long fundraising and awareness campaigns.

 

Sustainability Initiatives

​

Collaborate on the development, implementation, and ongoing review of the NUSU Sustainability Plan; and,

Ensure consultation and engagement across stakeholders in sustainability efforts.

 

Media & Public Relations

​

Support media relations, including press releases, statements, and public communications;

Collect and incorporate student feedback to improve communications and outreach; and,

Act as a secondary liaison for communication between NUSU, the university, and the North Bay community.

 

The Reflection Gallery

​

Oversee the operations and programming of The Reflection Gallery in the NUSU Student Centre;

Coordinate exhibitions, installations, and related events throughout the year; and,

Promote the gallery in collaboration with the Communications Department and community partners.

 

Supervisory

​

Oversee the Communications Department and ensure quality and consistency across all outputs;

Support staff in fulfilling their roles effectively; and,

Maintain regular communication, meetings, and overall team coordination.

Qualifications

  • A current student at Nipissing University

  • In good standing with Nipissing University and NUSU

  • Be at least eighteen (18) years of age by the Nomination Package submission deadline

  • Not be an undischarged bankrupt

  • Not be incapacitated

Jaden is currently attaining a post-secondary degree here at Nipissing University. She is in her fifth year of the Concurrent Honours - Business Administration program alongside studying a Minor in Mathematics & Psychology.
