Student Advocacy Matters. Here are some frequently asked questions from students:
What is Student Advocacy?
Student Advocacy is a service provided by the Nipissing University Student Union to support students facing academic, financial, or personal challenges. We help you understand your rights, navigate university policies, and connect with the right resources.

What kinds of issues can you help with?
We can assist with academic appeals, grade disputes, misconduct allegations, housing concerns, financial challenges, and general conflicts with the university.

Is the service confidential?
Yes. All conversations with a student advocate are confidential, and your information is only shared with your permission (unless required by law).
How much does it cost?
Student Advocacy services are free for all members of the Nipissing University Student Union.
Do I need to be in trouble to use this service?
Not at all. Advocacy is here to support you at any stage—whether you need advice, clarification, or someone to guide you through a situation before it escalates.
Can someone come with me to meetings?
In many cases, an advocate can help you prepare for meetings or attend with you for support, depending on the situation and university policies.
How do I book an appointment?
You can contact the Student Advocacy office through the Student Union website or visit the office in person to schedule a meeting.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Bring any relevant documents, emails, or notices related to your situation. This helps us better understand your case and provide accurate guidance.
Will you speak on my behalf?
Our role is to empower you. We can help you prepare what to say, explain your options, and guide you through processes—but you remain in control of your case.
Where can I learn more about my rights as a student?
Your advocate can walk you through university policies and procedures so you clearly understand your rights and responsibilities as a student.
