Student Executive
The Vice President of Student Life (VPSL) is a student executive role with high student engagement responsibilities, contributing to organizational decision-making and overseeing NUSU’s student experience initiatives. This includes planning events and services that enhance campus life, such as social events, wellness initiatives, and student engagement activities. The VPSL is also responsible for orientation week development and execution, alongside coordination of volunteer opportunities on campus.
This year, the focus is on strengthening student engagement and sense of belonging, expanding inclusive and accessible programming, and enhancing collaboration with campus partners and student organizations. Additional goals include increasing opportunities for student leadership and involvement, and developing initiatives that support student well-being and overall campus experience.
About this role:
Student Representation
Represent NUSU as an Official Observer on the Nipissing University Board of Governors and participate in Academic Senate as a non-voting Senator; and,
Support the communication of student perspectives within institutional discussions.
Orientation & Transition Programming
Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of Orientation Week and New Student Orientation (NSO), in collaboration with the Executive Committee and NUSU staff;
Recruit, train, and supervise Orientation Leaders and volunteers, ensuring compliance with NUSU policies;
Collaborate on key initiatives such as Give Day and other fundraising events throughout the academic year; and,
Collect feedback and provide recommendations to improve future orientation and transition programming.
Events & Student Engagement
Oversee the planning and delivery of social and academic events in collaboration with the Social Committee and NUSU staff;
Chair the Social Committee and ensure regular meetings and effective event planning;
Support student groups with events and work collaboratively on programming initiatives, including themed events and club nights;
Recruit, train, and manage volunteers (NUSU Crew) to support event operations; and,
Ensure events are safe, inclusive, well-promoted, and continuously improved through feedback and evaluation.
Governance & Organizational Responsibilities
Fulfill all duties as outlined in NUSU governing documents, including responsibilities as a Director and Officer of the Corporation; and,
Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, policies, and procedures.
Executive Leadership & Operations
Collaborate with the Executive Committee to support strategic planning, organizational priorities, and policy adherence;
Foster strong communication and collaboration across all NUSU departments and campus partners;
Build and maintain relationships within the Nipissing University and North Bay community; and,
Complete additional duties as assigned by the Board of Directors and/or Executive Committee.

Owen is currently attaining a post-secondary degree here at Nipissing University. He is in his third year of the Bachelor of Physical Health & Education program alongside studying a Minor in Sociology.
