Student Executive
The Vice-President Governance & Services (VPGS) plays a key behind-the-scenes role at NUSU, overseeing policy development and ensuring organizational policies remain current and effective. This position is responsible for managing core services and initiatives, including the student health plan, sponsorships, sustainability efforts, food pantry, and support for student groups.
Priorities for the 2026–2027 term include expanding sponsorship opportunities such as student discounts and event prizing, while enhancing the value and accessibility of the student health plan and strengthening support for student groups. Particularly in areas like executive transitions and the creation of new groups on campus.
About this role:
Student Representation
• Sit on and participate in the Nipissing University Board of Governors as a voting member in Open and Closed Sessions;
• Sit on and participate in the Nipissing University Senate as a voting Senator;
• Sit on and participate in various Nipissing Senate Committees as a voting member;
• Sit on and participate in various Nipissing Board of Governors Committees as a voting member or official observer;
• Sit on and participate in the Nipissing University Board of Governors, Compulsory Ancillary Fee Committee as a voting member;
• Sit on and participate in the NUSU Student Centre Joint Finance Committee as a voting member.
Student Groups
• Oversee the ratification, support, and operations of student groups, including applications, training, and events;
• Ensure all groups comply with NUSU policies and procedures while providing guidance and resources;
• Support and oversee Student Group elections as Chief Returning Officer (CRO); and,
• Collaborate with internal departments to support group budgets, planning, and activities.
Student Health & Wellness Plan
• Manage the Student Health & Wellness Plan, including administration, communication, and fee oversight;
• Promote awareness and ensure students have access to accurate and timely information;
• Liaise with the plan provider and address student concerns efficiently; and,
• Work collaboratively with staff to continuously improve the plan experience.
Sponsorship & Partnerships
• Support the development and maintenance of sponsorships in collaboration with internal departments;
• Act as a primary liaison with sponsors and coordinate sponsorship needs for events and initiatives; and,
• Ensure consistent communication and reporting throughout the term.
Food Pantry
• Oversee and promote the NUSU Student Food Pantry in collaboration with staff; and,
• Support fundraising and awareness initiatives to enhance food security for students.
Governance & Policy
• Support the development, review, and implementation of NUSU By-Laws, policies, and procedures;
• Ensure organizational compliance with applicable legislation in collaboration with the Executive team;
• Serve as a signing authority and support legal and governance processes as required; and,
• Chair the Governance Committee and support other committees, including Audit & Finance and Campaigns & Green Initiatives.
Sustainability Initiatives
• Collaborate on the development, implementation, and ongoing review of the NUSU Sustainability Plan; and,
• Ensure broad consultation and engagement across students, staff, and stakeholders.
