Health Plan - What is covered by the health plan?
Students receive coverage for a great number of things, ranging from prescription drugs to excess medical coverage, and numerous other liabilities. Optical, chiropractic, physiotherapy and oral contraceptives can be covered under certain conditions. The exact nature of this coverage varies depending on the product or service being acquired. The Student Insurance Plan booklet contains the details as they relate to coverage. These booklets can be picked up from the NUSU office.
Health Plan - What is the deductible and co-pay factor?
The deductible is $50.00 and the co-pay factor is 80/20 for many prescription drugs (some drugs are at a different co-pay factor and some drugs are not covered). Assuming the drugs are under the 80/20 co-pay factor, the insurance company will cover 80% of the cost of your prescription drugs after the deductible of $50.00 has been paid. The remaining 20% of the costs of the prescription drugs are to be paid by the student. Please note that many insurance plans allow coordination of benefits, resulting in better coverage. The portion that would normally be covered by the student is usually covered by the second plan, and the student will often end up getting 100% coverage. Please consult with your insurance carrier to confirm that your plan allows coordination of benefits.
Health Plan - If I have opted out, can I opt back in?
No. If you have opted out, you may not opt back in during the year. Once you have opted out, you are no longer covered by the Health Plan.
Student Centre Convenience Card - Can I still buy a Student Centre Convenience Card?
You can buy a Student Centre Convenience Card anytime. There are no time limits, and the card doesn’t expire as long as you are a student at either Nipissing or Canadore.
Where can I use the Student Centre Convenience Card?
You can use it at PALS Market (the variety store), The Wall Grill House Restuarant, Pita and Pizza and in the NUSU Office for faxing, photocopying, concert tickets etc. So basically, you get the best food on campus, access to the only variety store, and office services all in one card. Does it get any better? No, no it does not.
Can my son/daughter buy alcohol or tobacco with their Convenience Card?
Nope. We’re cool like that. The Student Centre Convenience Card can not be used to purchase alcohol, tobacco, or city bus passes. Just the good stuff – high quality, convenient food at our two food services locations, groceries, toiletries and other essentials at PALS and office services through the main office.
