Welcome Nipissing University Students!
My name is Anthony Qushair, and I am the Vice President External of the Nipissing University Student Union for the 2010 / 2011 academic year. I hope that all newcomers to the university are excited to be here and are settling comfortably into the North Bay community. Those of you who are returning students I offer you a warm welcome back and look forward to seeing those familiar faces in the hallways again.
Raised in Orangeville, a small town in southern Ontario, I was initially drawn to Nipissing University because of its small and tight knit academic and social community. I’m currently majoring in English but also have interests in Geography and Education. As Vice President External I will be dealing with outside entities and resources and will work hard to make sure that the students are provided with quality campaigns that are interesting, entertaining, and informative.
As Vice President External I serve as a liaison for the students to other student unions and the community of North Bay. I represent the students on various committees and boards within the university. I also work as the facilitator of the Student Health Plan and am here to answer any questions or assist with any claims that might be made under the plan’s coverage.
If you’re a student, new or returning, and are looking to get more involved with NUSU there are many different ways that I can assist you. We’re always looking for volunteers whether it’s for Frosh Week, articles or topics for the Student Spotlight (our own student magazine), involvement in NUSU Delegate or Executive elections, or with the Awareness Team (a group that promotes general and sexual health awareness). One of the easiest ways to get involved is to come out for our annual Shinerama fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis research that we hold each September. Come out and Volunteer!
If you’re interested in getting involved it’s as easy as contacting me about ideas or interests. NUSU representatives are elected by the students to work for the students so drop by and let us know about any ideas or concerns. Our doors are always open; I hope to meet you soon!
