Hello Friends!
I would first like to say welcome to the best university in the world. This year is going to be filled with all kinds of fun, laughs and memories. Whether you’re a; first year, eddie, or mature student the Nipissing University Student Union (NUSU) is here to work tirelessly for you! My name is Ryan Lahti and I am your NUSU President for the upcoming year! Currently I’m a fourth year Physical and Health Education student, and was a NUSU Executive last year as Vice President Internal. I have gained a lot of knowledge and experience over my 3 years in this institution. I am certain I will represent you with the highest level of integrity and leadership that you deserve.
Part of my role as President is to ensure that every student (you) is being represented to the fullest, and also to provide an environment that will allow for “academic and social growth.” I will also be overseeing roles and responsibilities of my Executives (Vice Presidents), and advocate the political face of NUSU.
The student union is one of the most vital organizations on campus. As a whole, NUSU works to provide the students with services and products to meet their needs. These can include but aren’t limited to: representation, assistance for academic issues, student food bank, job opportunities (we hire the most students on campus), clubs, and frosh week (the best week of your life), and much more! NUSU may seem similar to other student unions, but we are in fact very different. This is partly because we share our Student Centre with Canadore Students Representative Council (CSRC). We have a very close knit relationship with our Canadore counterparts through events, fundraisers, and committees. The Student Centre also houses our student owned businesses such as: our nationally renowned bar and grillhouse “The Wall”, Pita Pizza, PALs Market, etc.
I am extremely excited for the upcoming year and I hope that you will take the time to drop into the NUSU office and meet all of your Executives. Get a better understanding of what NUSU can do for you by reading our 2009 Annual Report. I hope everyone has the time of their lives this upcoming year because it can be whatever you make of it! If you have any questions or concerns please drop into the NUSU office located in the Student Centre.
