The Lakehouse
Nipissing University Students' Union - Bracebridge

The Lakehouse is Nipissing University Students' Union's (NUSU) latest endeavour to promote academic and social growth for students at Nipissing University's Bracebridge Campus. The Lakehouse is located on the main floor of the Nipissing University Bracebridge campus building.

Operating during the hours of 8:00am to 6:00pm, The Lakehouse provides breakfast, lunch and dinner food services varying from deli sandwiches, soup, salad, and daily specials. These comfort foods can be enjoyed while utilizing this student oriented space, which is also home to the only ATM on campus, 42 inch LCD flat screen TVs with satellite television, liquor service, vending machines and Sirius Satellite Radio. This student space also includes photocopying and faxing services, a meeting room for NUSU student clubs / organizations, office space for the two NUSU Muskoka Reps and a presence for NUSU on the Bracebridge Campus.

The Lakehouse is home to The Student Centre's Bracebridge Food and Beverage Operations Manager, Amanda Northey, who will be available onsite to accommodate the needs of the student population. We look forward to a great year and the further impact that the Bracebridge students will have on Nipissing University. NUSU is excited to see what the future holds through the success of The Lakehouse at Nipissing University's Bracebridge campus.

The Muskoka Campus of Nipissing University first opened its doors in 1996 to a small group of six full-time and 26 part-time students. Despite humble beginnings, a strong foundation has been built over the past 10 years and a new vision for the campus has been proposed.

On Wednesday, January 25th, 2006 Nipissing University and the Town of Bracebridge announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding that could see the university's Muskoka Campus re-located to the downtown site of Jubilee Park.

The MOU established a framework for actions related to the development and construction of a new Muskoka Campus beginning with a 13,000 square foot, one-floor academic building consisting of a theatre style lecture hall, a number of classrooms, as well as, a student lounge, faculty offices and administrative space. The building will be designed for future growth accomodating two additional floors. The building will house approximately 185 full-time equivalent students or roughly 400 students.

With the expansion, the university is planning to offer expanded course selection and degree programs, as well as continuing education opportunities. The new campus will offer significant improvements from increased course selection to technologically advanced classrooms.
